The psychology of everday things is an article by ........... that talks about using the everyday machines and other technology around us and how they sometimes make things even harder. The author gives examples of experiences people have had with various devices in their everyday lives such as doors, coffe pots, microwaves and even washer and driers. These items have been tricky to use properly or even to change it's various settings. I myself as many others have had this same type of experience when I tried to program my VCR to record a television show for my wife that was going to be on while we were on vacation. The task of actually programming the VCR was much more involved than any musical instrument or musical device I have ever used. Even though the machines are much more sophisticated. Our groups talked about thier own POET experiences and had some funny stories. One members husband has a mountain bike that had lights that went off when switched from lo to high, another member bought a weed wacker that was poorly designed for starting it and I talked about how we changed the push sign on our store door to pull just to fool people! The article was a quick read and opened your eyes to how the design process has a big impact on the final product. Bad design or even poor design can be very costly to the people investing in the product. |
