The book titled "Making It Happen" by Mackenzie Kyle is about a persons experiences as a project manager. The project is to develop a product called the WindSailor board. The book gives it's readers some insight on what it is like to be a Project Manager complete with all it's trials and tribulations. I first read the book in Jan. of 1999 before I was actually asked to be a project manager on a project for Dean Arends for the School of Education and Proffessional Studies. This allowed me to learn some things that I thought were very importan such as:
I actualy read the book again after I was asked to be project manager on a project and realized how much more information it had on being a project manager than I first noticed. It is just given in a different format. The book is very easy to read and is only 245 pages long so it doesn't take long. It is written in the form of a story so it makes you want to keep picking it up to see the outcome of the events as well as the project. The fact that it is written this way is another reason to read it again. When you re-read it you know where the info is that is most important so you actually finish it quicker. The book does not stress all the important events for you it just lets these events happen. Reading it a second time allows the reader to absorb some things that were maybe overlooked at first. I believe this is a great book for anyone interested in being
a Project Manager or even anyone interested in being a member
of a Project Team as all of us in the EDT program will have to
be eventually. My wife reads more than any human I know so I
gave her it to read to see what she thought as well as see what
I was feeling like too! She said she enjoyed it! Our Project Management class was lucky enough to have had two seperate phone conferences with Mackenzie Kyle that were very informative about the book, projects and yes even the sequel!
